“Civilised and friendly stripped-stone pub with enjoyable food and good wine choice.” by The Good Pub Guide

Reopening Policy

Dear friends and guests,

We want to keep you and ourselves safe when restrictions are lifted.

To make sure we can give you great service, excellent food and drink, as well as maintain the health of staff and customers we have the following measures in place:

  • “Hands, face and space” is still in place here
    • Sanitise your hands before, during and after
    • We would be grateful if you wear your mask when you are not at your table
    • We kindly ask you to keep social distancing
  • We will keep table service for the time being (booking a table is highly recommended as we are working with restricted numbers)
  • You may order a drink at the bar but we’ll require you to consume it sitting at the table (no standing at the bar, please)
  • We will continue to uphold ALL our safety procedures

Please respect these simple measures and let’s all have a happy and healthy summer!

  • Limited availability will become our new “full house” so that we can promote social distancing and safeguard our staff and guests.
  • Bookings / Cancellations:
    • The maximum number of guests at one table is 6 from different households or any size from two households; up to 30 people outside.
    • We can only take bookings at the moment – ‘walk ins’ won’t be possible initially.
    • You will receive the booking confirmation by email: we are kindly asking you to bring it with you.
    • Booking deposit: For a table of more than four guests we will require credit card details while booking, until then it’s going to be a provisional booking. The deposit of £1 will be applied while reservation. The deposit can be paid over the phone. Please make sure you have your credit card ready when booking.
    • Cancellation / Reduction / Amendments: We apologise that cancellation charges have become necessary, especially in the current climate, unfortunately our experience and the whole industry’s experience dictate this precaution. The Oxford Arms is a husband and wife run dining pub with a limited number of covers available and our continued success relies on reservations being honoured by our guests or sufficient notice being given of any change.

A cancellation fee of £20.00 per person will be made to your credit / debit card, in the event of less than 48 hours notice given of any cancellation, reduction of number of guests or amendments. However, if we are able to resell your table to a group of the same size we will be happy to waive the charge.

  • The Oxford Arms is suitable for people aged 12 and over only.

  • Limited opening times and numbers:
    • Lunch (Thursday – Sunday): 12 pm – 3 pm; food order from 12 pm till 1:30 pm.
    • Dinner (Thursday – Saturday): 6 pm – 10 pm; food order from 6:30 pm till 8:30 pm.

  • Menu:
    • The menu will be focussed, as usual, on seasonal and local produce and designed to ensure we can still deliver excellent meals and maintain safety in the kitchen and out in the dining area.
    • There will be set special-value price menus:
    • To minimise contacts between staff and guests we kindly ask you to use our web-site or QR coded cards on the tables to view the daily menu on your mobile device.

  • Service / Social distancing / Health and hygiene:
    • According to the law we’ll be offering table service only:
      • Customers must order, eat and drink while seated at a table.
      • No orders at the bar.
    • We must kindly ask you to remain seated wherever possible.
      • When not seated – for example being shown to a table, or going to the toilet – customers should wear face masks  and observe social distancing.
    • Please maintain social distancing as you would anywhere else.We reconfigured indoor and outdoor seating and tables to maintain social distancing guidelines (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable) between customers of different households or support bubbles. Some tables have been removed.
    • Our front of house and kitchen staff will be wearing face coverings.
    • We would kindly ask you to wash your hands with soap and water and / or use our sanitising hand gel when entering and during your dining if required.
    • Entrance door: “One in, one out” system.
    • Toilets: “One in, one out” system. We’ll sanitise the toilets as frequently as possible before, during and after the opening hours. We also would like to ask you to be gracious to our hard-working team, so please keep the toilets clean after use and wash your hands with soap and water (and / or hand sanitiser).
    • Failure to observe safety measures will result in service not being provided.
    • If you have COVID-19 or any flu-like symptoms (if you or anyone at home has a temperature or a new, persistent cough) PLEASE CANCEL YOUR BOOKING AND DO NOT ENTER THE PUB. Our staff are here for you – please don’t risk infecting them and other customers.
    • Full details of the government’s guidelines you can find here:

  • Payment:
    • We are kindly asking you to make contactless or card payments or if you would like to pay cash, then exact money would be preferred.

  • “EAT OUT AT HOME by Bryn Jones” takeaway service:
    • Due to a lot of requests we will still be running out our “EAT OUT AT HOME by Bryn Jones” takeaway service when we are re-open. However, the time-slots will slightly be reduced, namely: Friday and Saturday evenings will be starting from 6pm until 8pm. Sunday lunch will stay as it is.

Last but not least – let’s be nice, kind and patient – we all in this together!

The Oxford Arms is an award-winning XIX century dining pub in Oxfordshire run by chef patron Bryn Jones since 2003.

We serve good, honest food with a minimum of fuss and maximum flavour.

The menu changes seasonably with daily specials to use even more local produce (some of the ingredients are from our organic Kitchen Garden and Kirtlington village itself).

Our real log fire will keep you warm in winter and our beautiful garden patio will keep you cool during hot summer days.

You will be looked after from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
