Reopening Policy

Dear friends and guests,

We want to keep you and ourselves safe from 19th July when restrictions are lifted.

To make sure we can give you great service, excellent food and drink, as well as maintain the health of staff and customers we have the following measures in place:

  • “Hands, face and space” is still in place here
    • Sanitise your hands before, during and after
    • We would be grateful if you wear your mask when you are not at your table
    • We kindly ask you to keep social distancing
  • We will keep table service for the time being (booking a table is highly recommended as we are working with restricted numbers)
  • You may order a drink at the bar but we’ll require you to consume it sitting at the table (no standing at the bar, please)
  • We will continue to uphold ALL our safety procedures

Please respect these simple measures and let’s all have a happy and healthy summer!

  • Limited availability will become our new “full house” so that we can promote social distancing and safeguard our staff and guests.

  • Bookings / Cancellations:
    • The maximum number of guests at one table is 6 from different households or any size from two households; up to 30 people outside.
    • We can only take bookings at the moment – ‘walk ins’ won’t be possible initially.
    • You will receive the booking confirmation by email: we are kindly asking you to bring it with you.
    • Please note: We require a valid credit card to guarantee your reservation with us. No fee will be charged, unless there is a late cancellation or no-show. A £20.00 per person cancellation fee will be made to your credit / debit card, in the event of less than 48-hour notice given of any cancellation, reduction of number of guests or amendments unless it’s connected to medical conditions / issues. However, if we are able to reallocate your table to a group of the same size, we will be happy to waive the charge.
    • The Oxford Arms is suitable for people aged 12 and over only.

  • Limited opening times and numbers:
    • Lunch (Thursday – Sunday): 12 pm – 3 pm; food order from 12 pm till 1:30 pm.
    • Dinner (Thursday – Saturday): 6 pm – 10 pm; food order from 6:30 pm till 8:30 pm.

  • Menu:
    • The menu will be focussed, as usual, on seasonal and local produce and designed to ensure we can still deliver excellent meals and maintain safety in the kitchen and out in the dining area.
    • There will be set special-value price menus:
    • To minimise contacts between staff and guests we kindly ask you to use our web-site or QR coded cards on the tables to view the daily menu on your mobile device.

  • Service / Social distancing / Health and hygiene:
    • According to the law we’ll be offering table service only:
      • Customers must order, eat and drink while seated at a table.
      • No orders at the bar.
    • We must kindly ask you to remain seated wherever possible.
      • When not seated – for example being shown to a table, or going to the toilet – customers should wear face masks (no exemption) and observe social distancing.
        • According to the new government’s guidelines face coverings must be worn when visiting restaurants, pubs and cafes when you are not sat at a table. This means when walking to and from the garden patio or when visiting the toilet a mask must be worn. Anyone who fails to adhere to the new rules will face a £200 fine. In the interest of the health and safety of all our staff and customers face coverings MUST be worn in the premises by ALL regardless of any exemptions that may apply elsewhere.
    • We support the NHS Test and Trace system: following the government’s guidelines while booking we’ll be asking your full name, telephone and email address. The data will be kept during 21 days and then destroyed. We’ve placed this NHS Test and Trace QR code on our entrance door and inside, please scan it with your NHS COVID-19 App to check-in.
      • Every customer aged 16 and over will have to check in to NHS test and trace, or give contact details to staff
      • Hospitality venues must take reasonable steps to refuse entry to a customer or visitor who does not provide their name and contact details or who has not scanned the NHS QR code.Hospitality venues should verify that an individual has checked in using the QR code by reviewing the individual’s phone screen. This is not necessary if they have already provided their contact details.
      • Full information about NHS test and trace guidelines can be found here:
    • Please maintain social distancing as you would anywhere else.We reconfigured indoor and outdoor seating and tables to maintain social distancing guidelines (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable) between customers of different households or support bubbles. Some tables have been removed.
    • Our front of house and kitchen staff will be wearing face coverings.
    • We would kindly ask you to wash your hands with soap and water and / or use our sanitising hand gel when entering and during your dining if required.
    • Entrance door: “One in, one out” system.
    • Toilets: “One in, one out” system. We’ll sanitise the toilets as frequently as possible before, during and after the opening hours. We also would like to ask you to be gracious to our hard-working team, so please keep the toilets clean after use and wash your hands with soap and water (and / or hand sanitiser).
    • We are planning for maintaining social distancing guidelines (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable) in the event of adverse weather conditions, being clear that customers cannot seek shelter indoors unless social distancing can be maintained.
    • Failure to observe safety measures will result in service not being provided.
    • If you have COVID-19 or any flu-like symptoms (if you or anyone at home has a temperature or a new, persistent cough) PLEASE CANCEL YOUR BOOKING AND DO NOT ENTER THE PUB. Our staff are here for you – please don’t risk infecting them and other customers.
    • Full details of the government’s guidelines you can find here:

  • Payment:
    • We are kindly asking you to make contactless or card payments or if you would like to pay cash, then exact money would be preferred.

  • “EAT OUT AT HOME by Bryn Jones” takeaway service:
    • Due to a lot of requests we will still be running out our “EAT OUT AT HOME by Bryn Jones” takeaway service when we are re-open. However, the time-slots will slightly be reduced, namely: Friday and Saturday evenings will be starting from 6pm until 8pm. Sunday lunch will stay as it is.

The Oxford Arms is an award-winning XIX century dining pub in Oxfordshire run by chef patron Bryn Jones since 2003.

We serve good, honest food with a minimum of fuss and maximum flavour.

The menu changes seasonably with daily specials to use even more local produce (some of the ingredients are from our organic Kitchen Garden and Kirtlington village itself).

Our real log fire will keep you warm in winter and our beautiful garden patio will keep you cool during hot summer days.

You will be looked after from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
